(Thurs. only) The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities will hold conference call briefings Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. (ET) and Thursday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. (ET) to discuss the latest in the policy debate over reauthorization of the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program, which the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on this Thursday, Feb. 13. The calls will focus on: -- the deterioration in the fiscal situations of state governments; -- the cuts states already are making in welfare, child care, and other programs; and -- how those developments have changed the context in which reform should be considered. Among the topics likely to be discussed are: proposed new work requirements, overall funding issues, child care, improving employment outcomes, and addressing barriers to employment. After presenting their analyses, these individuals will respond to questions.
