
Laura Thevenot Named Executive Director of ASTRO 7/11/2002

Ms. Thevenot comes to ASTRO with 15 years of experience in health care organizations, and her career reflects her dedication to the core cause of improving patient care. "Laura's outstanding leadership, managerial and advocacy skills will be put to use as ASTRO looks to the future to better meet the needs of our members," said ASTRO Chairman David A. Larson, Ph.D., M.D., F.A.C.R. "ASTRO's newly designed strategic plan calls for action in four key areas - education, healthcare economics, government relations and research. Laura's extensive experience in each of these areas will certainly be an asset to our organization, our members and, ultimately, our patients." Since 1996, Ms. Thevenot has served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of The Federation of American Hospitals, a major association representing 1,700 acute care, rehabilitation and long-term care hospitals. Prior to that, she was Vice President of Federal Affairs for The Health Insurance Association of America, which represents approximately 250 commercial health insurers. Her tenure with these organizations allowed her to gain valuable experience in the areas of health policy, health care quality, insurance reform, reimbursement and Medicare and Medicaid. "I am honored to have the opportunity to guide radiation oncology's leading organization," said Ms. Thevenot. "I feel my background in health policy will help further ASTRO's mission of advancing the practice of radiation oncology in a rapidly evolving socioeconomic health care environment."
