National Educational Computing Conference To Be Held June 17-19

The world's largest and most comprehensive educational technology event will take place at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Tex. when the National Educational Computing Association (NECA) sponsors the 22nd annual National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) June 17-19, 2002. Held in partnership with the International Society for Technology in Education and the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA), NECC 2002: Nexus in Texas is expected to draw 12,000 teachers, administrators, technology coordinators, and teacher educators from 55 countries.

According to NECA president Dr. Cathleen Norris, "NECC will give delegates an opportunity to strengthen the role of technology in education by learning and sharpening skills, sharing with colleagues, and becoming involved and inspired."

NECC 2002: Nexus in Texas will include exhibits by more than 450 influential educational hardware and software companies, and more than 400 dynamic local and national speakers, demonstrations, discussions, workshops, Internet poster sessions, research papers, and a national Student Showcase. Delegates will be able to get hands-on experience with cutting-edge products for the K-16 community through exhibits and extended workshops.

Keynote sessions include:

-- Lily Tomlin, Emmy award winning actress/comedian; Monday, June 17, 8:30-9:45 a.m.

-- Hall Davidson, executive director of telecommunications of Orange County, Calif., and director of the California Student Media and Multimedia Festival; Tuesday, June 18, 8:30-9:45 a.m.

-- Friendship Through Education Consortium, a group of teachers and students using technology to build educational and personal relationships to address the causes of violence; Wednesday, June 19, 8:30-9:45 a.m.

-- Toody Byrd, award-winning teacher, counselor, humor columnist and motivational speaker;Wednesday, June 19, 11:45-1:15 a.m.

NECC 2002: Nexus in Texas will be held in cooperation with many regional education and technology organizations in the Southwest, including TCEA, Texas Center for Educational Technology, Texas Education Agency, and the South Central Regional Technology in Education Center. These organizations have pledged to supply conference organizers with professional endorsement, publicity opportunities and volunteers.
