
Navy League of the U.S. Hosts 2002 Sea-Air-Space Exposition in the Nation's Capital 3/7/2002
From: Tomeka Rawlings of the Navy League of the U.S., 703-528-1775 ext. 1581, E-mail: trawlings@navyleague.org News Advisory: The Navy League of the United States, a civilian organization with more than 77,000 members who for 100 years have supported and advocated for the military sea services, will host its 2002 Sea-Air-Space Exposition at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., March 26-28. Acclaimed as the world's largest and most renowned maritime exposition, Sea-Air-Space unites the leading national and international defense industries and features the latest innovative systems and products designed to advance America's military superiority during this time of increased national security demands. This year's exposition will highlight more than 100 exhibits showcasing weapons systems and sea power technologies for the 21st century. Special emphasis will be placed on demonstrating the use and integration of new technologies in sea warfare. For example, United Defense LP will highlight its 155mm advanced Gun System planned for the DD(X) program; Northrop Grumman's Early Warning Group will highlight its experience in building and upgrading the E-2C Hawkeye surveillance aircraft, and a new radar-modernization program. Raytheon Missile Systems will highlight variants of the SM-2 Standard Missile as well as upgrades to the Phalanx close-in-weapon system; and Sun Microsystems will emphasize their support of the Navy's IT-21 initiative and its role in the new Navy-Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) program. Scheduled to participate in this year's exposition are some of the nation's top military leaders including Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld (invited); Secretary of the Navy Gordon R. England (invited); ADM Vernon E. Clark, USN Chief of Naval Operations; VADM Joseph W. Dyer, USN Commander, Naval Air Systems Command; and RADM Thomas W. Steffens USN, Director, Force Protection/Anti-terrorism Division. Professional seminars will focus on the important role of the sea services as they support on going national security issues in the new millenium and fight war against international terrorism.
