DeLucia, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board, American Lung Association WHAT: Dr. DeLucia will testify before the House Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs, Housing And Urban Development, and Independent Agencies WHY: To support increased FY04 funding for EPA Clean Air programs WHEN: 9:30 a.m., April 9, 2003 WHERE: Room H-143, U.S. Capitol CONTACT: Diane Maple, 202-785-3355 Dr. DeLucia's testimony will focus on issues of concern to the American Lung Association: -- The Administration's "Clear Skies" legislation, which would severely weaken the Clean Air Act. -- The Administration's plan to dismantle the New Source Review program, which requires power plants and other facilities to install pollution-control equipment when they undergo modifications that significantly increase air pollution emissions. -- The need for increased federal funding for Environmental Protection Agency enforcement and compliance programs, its National Ambient Air Quality Standards research program and children's asthma research programs. -- The need to provide the EPA with sufficient resources for timely review of the fine particulate (soot) and ozone (smog) standards and to proceed with its forthcoming new non-road diesel engine rules. |
