From: Sandy Scherer of Dialog, 919-461-7354; 919-795-1762 (cell) or Sandy.Scherer@dialog.com; John Buckman of Buckman Communications for Dialog, 412-381-2900 or John.Buckman@buckmancommunications.com CARY, N.C., June 9 -- Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, said today that news reports published and broadcast by more than 200 media sources from hard-to-monitor countries, translated into English, have been added to the World News Connection (WNC) service. Dialog said that the new sources of local news reporting come from countries such as China, Cuba, India, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan and Serbia, greatly increasing the regional coverage available through the daily global news monitoring service. WNC is offered by Dialog in partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Technical Information Service (NTIS). The content available for electronic searching and retrieval, compiled daily by the U.S. government's Foreign Broadcast Information Service, is culled from a total of more than 1,750 newspapers, magazines, broadcast outlets and other sources based in more than 100 countries. "World News Connection is a one-of-a-kind service that truly has no parallel," said Viji Krishnan, Dialog vice president, publisher management. "Many publications and broadcast sources contributing articles and reports to the service are not available anywhere else in the online world. We're drawing content from a number of countries that have restricted information sharing with the rest of the world." Added Krishnan: "For a wide range of government agencies, international businesses, public policy experts, news organizations and many others, World News Connection is the best possible way to track local news and monitor grassroots perspectives on international issues, all through the convenience of the Web." In addition to the countries represented by the newly available publications and broadcast outlets announced today, other difficult-to-monitor countries with media available through WNC include Afghanistan, Bhutan, Ethiopia, Nepal, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tonga, Vanuatu and Vietnam, among others. WNC is available for subscription from Dialog as a stand-alone service on the Web (http://wnc.dialog.com) or as an optional component of other services offered by Dialog, including Dialog(r)-branded services and Dialog NewsRoom.
