National Medical Association Hosts 2002 Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly August 3-8, 2002 in Honolulu, Hawaii

The nation's largest and most renowned scientific assembly on health issues affecting African Americans and underserved populations, the National Medical Association (NMA), will convene some of the most prominent medical scholars, scientists and practitioners from around the country. Cutting-edge research, diagnostic methods, therapeutics, practice issues, and the latest technology will be presented through 25 medical specialties -- from Aerospace Medicine to Women's Health issues.

WHEN: Saturday, August 3, 2002 to Thursday, August 8, 2002

WHO: The NMA is a medical society representing the interests of more than 25,000 African Americans. Members of the association are committed to facilitating the health challenges of African Americans and other communities of color. Key convention participants include:

-- David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., former U.S. Surgeon General and Assistant Secretary for Health in the U.S. Health and Human Services Department. -- Andrew von Eschenbach, M.D., Director, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health. -- Warren Jones, M.D., President of the American Academy of Family Practice. -- Louis W. Sullivan, M.D., former Dean and President of the Moorehouse School of Medicine. -- Danny Glover, actor, National spokesperson for Anemia Lifeline Program. -- Joycelyn Elders, M.D., former U.S. Surgeon General, professor of pediatrics at the University of Arkansas. -- Representative Jesse L. Jackson, Jr., Illinois Congressman. Other distinguished experts.

WHERE: The 2002 Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly will be held at the Honolulu Convention Center, Honolulu, Hawaii.

WHY: Guest lecturers from leading institutions, NMA experts, and scientists will discuss how diseases affecting the African American and communities of color are managed in today's medical practices. The Scientific Assembly is designed to provide educational opportunities through special sessions, post-graduate courses and individual programs from 25 separate specialties.
