From: Rebecca L. Riggs, 202-488-7000 Ext. 126, Or Kelly Walmsley, 703-683-5004, ext. 140, both of Concerned Women for America WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 -- Concerned Women for America defended Dr. David Hager today against anti-religious smear tactics. Dr. Hager is reportedly in line for a key post at the Food and Drug Administration, and leftist groups have abandoned all tolerance for religion in their attacks on him for incorporating his Christian faith into his practice. "Dr. Hager is eminently qualified and highly respected by his peers and the women he treats," said Wendy Wright, senior policy director for Concerned Women for America. The FDA would be privileged to have a doctor of his experience and compassion on their advisory committee. "To attack a highly credentialed doctor over his incorporating Christian faith into the practice of medicine is nothing less than religious bigotry. Surveys show 99 percent of doctors say religious beliefs can make a positive contribution to the healing process. The attacks on this man are shameful." Dr. Hager's credentials include: -- Named one of "Best Doctors for Women" in the Southeast by Ladies Home Journal in April of 2002 -- Named one the "Best Doctors for Women" by Good Housekeeping Magazine in 1997 -- Clinical Research Investigator for the Centers for Disease Control -- Served on the faculty at Emory University School of Medicine and the University of Kentucky School of Medicine -- Educational Achievement Award, Kentucky Medical Association -- Assistant Surgeon, U.S. Public Health Service -- Delivery of over 5500 babies -- 41 journal publications, including high profile journals like The Journal of the American Medical Association -- Editor of two medical textbooks from highly regarded medical publishers, Infection Protocols for Obstetrics and Gynecology (Medical Economics, 1992) and Protocols for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynecology (Blackwell Science, 1999). Concerned Women for America is the nation's largest public policy women's organization. |
