SILVER SPRING, Md., June 17 -- The National Commission Against Drunk Driving (NCADD) and Spirit Sciences USA, Inc. have signed a Strategic Alliance Agreement to design and implement new and innovative educational programs and materials to counter alcohol-related traffic crashes. Spirit Sciences USA, Inc. will also provide financial support to help underwrite the NCADD's existing anti drunk-driving programs.

Drunk driving continues to be a major public health and safety problem on America's roadways. After a dramatic 38 percent drop in alcohol-related traffic fatalities from 1980 to 1994, DUI deaths stagnated at about 17,000 for five years before beginning to increase again in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

"The NCADD is delighted to join forces with Spirit Sciences to create new programs to fight drunk driving and underage drinking," said John V. Moulden, President of the NCADD. "Partnerships like this are critical to mounting a comprehensive effort to encourage personal responsibility and reduce drunk driving in America."

Thus far, Spirit Sciences USA contributed $20,000 in the first quarter of 2004 to NCADD programs and pledged to provide 5 percent of its net profit to support NCADD efforts to curb drunk driving and underage drinking. Spirit Sciences USA, Inc. is the first company in a dietary supplement industry to create an affiliation with NCADD.
