From: Rich Murphy of the New York Blood Center, 212-570-3101 Gladwyn Lopez of Rubenstein Communications, 212-843-9231 NEW YORK, May 19 -- In celebration and recognition of the over 1,200 individuals, corporations and foundations that have contributed funding to New York Blood Center (NYBC) -- totaling over $70 million in 40 years -- the center today revealed its "Wall of Honor," as a display of its gratitude to those that have aided the center in providing its much needed services to the metropolitan area. The unveiling was hosted by Newsday publisher Ray Jansen and businessman Howard Milstein -- NYBC's General Chair, Volunteer Blood Donor Campaign and Chairman of the Board respectively -- as well as NYBC President/CEO Dr. Robert L. Jones. "The Wall of Honor symbolizes the dedication to community service and selflessness of each of the honorees," said Dr. Jones. "The wall is a physical tribute to the individuals and groups that through funding, have made it possible for the center to provide life saving services and products to those in need. On behalf of the center and all those that have benefited from its work, we say thank you." The wall, located in the NYBC lobby at 310 E. 67th Street, is custom designed and measures over 16 feet in length by six feet in height and contains a combination of individually cast brass nameplates and parchment etchings of contributors. The list of honorees is a who's who of businessmen and women, corporations, foundations and philanthropists including such names as The Starr Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, Abby R. Mauze Charitable Trust, JPMorgan Chase, MetLife Foundation, Citigroup, The Rockefeller Brothers Fund, IBM Corporation, Johnson & Johnson and Howard P. Milstein. New York Blood Center, celebrating 40 years of service to the NY/NJ community, on a daily basis provides life-saving transfusion products and services for patients in close to 200 New York and New Jersey hospitals. New York Blood Center is a member of America's Blood Centers, and one of the nation's largest non- profit, community-based blood centers. New York Blood Center is also home to the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute and the National Cord Blood Program, the nation's largest public cord blood bank. ------ Editor's note: High resolution, publication-ready photo(s) supporting this story available for free editorial use at: http://www.wirepix.com/newsphotos/USN |
