Deepening Deficits and Burden of Government: What Really Matters? NTU Cosponsors Four-Part Series on 'Reining in Federal Spending' 6/23/2004
From: Pete Sepp or Annie Patnaude, 703-683-5700, both of the National Taxpayers Union News Advisory: Deepening deficits may be a sign of fiscal folly, but is a balanced budget worth a bigger burden of government? In this second event of a four-part series on reining in federal spending, experts will examine why Washington should stop fixating on deficit figures and start focusing on tightening its budget belt. Our speakers will offer answers about the real price of government spending, analyze how tax cuts can help, and explain why spending sprees are more dangerous in the long run than deficits. In collaboration with: The Heritage Foundation and Citizens Against Government Waste. WHAT: Experts will discuss what effect government spending has on economic growth, what tax cuts can and cannot do, and what imbalances lawmakers should be worried about. Featured speakers are: -- Bruce Bartlett, senior fellow, National Center for Policy Analysis -- Scott Hodge, president, Tax Foundation -- Dan Mitchell, McKenna senior research fellow in Political Economy, The Heritage Foundation -- Hosted by Dr. John Berthoud, president, National Taxpayers Union.
