Westside Salons, 1-4, 5th Fl --- Note to the Media: More than 500 Navy League members from around the world will attend the Centennial Convention in New York City to celebrate the Navy League's proud 100-year patriotic legacy of supporting the sea services -- the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine. The Navy League was launched in 1902, with the enthusiastic support and personal funding of President Theodore Roosevelt. As a former Assistant Secretary of the Navy and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Roosevelt contributed part of his Peace honorarium to build a legacy for sea power. With the theme "Citizens in Support of the Sea Services," the Centennial year has been marked by hundreds of events and programs sponsored by the League's 330 councils in the U.S. and around the world. On June 11, 2002, the House of Representatives introduced a Congressional Concurrent Resolution congratulating the Navy League on its 100th anniversary.
