Real Estate Roundtable Elects New Officers, Board; Lowe Enterprises Inc.'s Robert J. Lowe Elected Chairman 7/8/2003
From: Scott Sherwood of Real Estate Roundtable, 202-639-8400 e-mail: sherwood@rer.org; web: http://www.rer.org WASHINGTON, July 8 -- The Real Estate Roundtable, which brings together leaders of the nation's public and privately-held real estate firms with the leaders of national real estate trade associations to present a cohesive industry voice to government officials and the public, has elected Los Angeles-based developer and investment manager Robert J. Lowe as chairman, approved senior officers to The Roundtable's Board of Directors and confirmed members for leadership posts on Roundtable policy committees and task forces. The new Roundtable Board consists of chairmen or CEOs from a cross-section of national real estate companies as well as the elected heads of six national real estate trade associations: the American Resort Development Association, Building Owners and Managers Association International, International Council of Shopping Centers, National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, National Association of Realtors, and National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. The Board was approved last month during The Roundtable's Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. The appointments took effect July 1. A list of all Roundtable Board members and their photos is available at http://www.rer.org/aboutus/leadership/. Lowe is chairman and CEO of Los Angeles-based Lowe Enterprises, Inc. (http://www.loweenterprises.com), a multi-faceted, national real estate firm whose activities include developing residential and commercial properties, resorts and hotels, and managing real estate investments for pension funds and other institutional clients. Throughout its 31-year history, Lowe Enterprises has developed, managed or acquired more than $6 billion in commercial, residential, hotel and resort real estate. Mr. Lowe was named "2002 Developer of the Year" by the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties in recognition of his industry leadership. As Roundtable chairman, Mr. Lowe succeeds former Roundtable chairman Nelson C. Rising, chairman and CEO of San Francisco-based Catellus Development Corp. (http://www.catellus.com). "It is an honor for me to succeed Nelson Rising as chairman of The Real Estate Roundtable. Nelson is owed a debt of gratitude for his vision and efforts that have been essential to the Roundtable's organizational expansion and effectiveness on Capitol Hill. As the new chairman, I look forward to working with The Roundtable's CEOs and with the elected heads of national real estate trade associations to advance a policy agenda that strives to enhance the health of real estate markets and benefit the nation's overall economy," Lowe said. Lowe added, "Our industry needs to remind national policymakers of the crucial role that real estate plays as an engine of economic growth and source of jobs for the country. As work continues in Washington on proposals addressing tort reform, homeland security, taxes, and capital and credit markets, it is vital that our industry communicates how those policies may directly or indirectly affect the real estate sector and economic growth." The Real Estate Roundtable (http://www.rer.org) and its members lead an industry that generates more than 20 percent of America's gross national product, creates over 9 million jobs and produces nearly two-thirds of the taxes raised by local governments for essential public services. Roundtable members are leading real estate industry executives with expertise on a broad range of finance, environmental and land use issues that affect every segment of America's income-producing real estate sector.
