The R&D projects offered include an actual blast experiment on building walls (conventional and protected walls) and numerous projects on infrastructure protection, protective retrofits for buildings, Pentagon studies, PC-based software, protective designs for our troops overseas, new facilities for future research, past efforts on other projects (Khobar Towers, etc.) and other related research projects. ERDC has been involved with Force Protection and antiterrorism research for the Department of Defense and other government agencies for years, and the Corps of Engineers has conducted blast research at the facility since the 1950s.
