Details: The terror of September 11, 2001, has forced Americans to rethink the country's relationship with the Middle East, including the security of the oil resources that the United States and other countries import from there.

On the anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, former CIA Director R. James Woolsey (1993-1995) will address these important concerns at a special hour-long seminar at the energy and environmental research center, Resources for the Future (RFF).

Woosley will draw on his extensive experience in counter-terrorism and international affairs to discuss the geopolitics of oil, and why energy security is so crucial to our national security.

He will also address ways in which the U.S. can reduce its dependence on imported Middle Eastern oil, such as generating ethanol from biomass.

Now a vice president of Booz Allen Hamilton's Global Strategic Security practice in McLean, Va., Woolsey also served on the National Commission on Terrorism (1999-2000). He was ambassador to the Negotiation on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (1989-1991), under secretary of the Navy (1977-1979), and general counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services (1970-1973). He was appointed by President Reagan as delegate-at-large to the U.S.-Soviet Strategic Arms Reduction Talks (START) and the Nuclear and Space Arms Talks (1983-1986).

Woolsey's talk is part of RFF's regular Wednesday seminar series. The seminars, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, are open to the public.
