Carey Forum Central Asia-Caucasus Institute, SAIS, president of Georgia, make his first official visit to the United States. During his visit, he will deliver a public speech on the topic of "Georgia After the Rose Revolution: Rebuilding Democracy and Stability." In this major policy statement, Saakashvili will explain his proposed solutions to the many problems facing Georgia and the region. Saakashvili was elected president on Jan. 4, 2004. Washington, D.C. BACKGROUND: The W.P. Carey Forum was established by W.P. Carey, the chairman and chief executive officer of W.P. Carey & Co. LLC, one the world's preeminent real estate investment banking firms. The Central Asia-Caucasus Institute (CACI) is an independent research and policy institution, affiliated to the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, and was the first institute in Washington, D.C. devoted to the study and analysis of Central Asia, the Caspian Basin and the Caucasus. CACI has held conferences on topics such as Islamic extremism, democracy in Kazakhstan, as well as the Taliban and drug trafficking. The Institute has four objectives: to conduct impartial research; to act as a forum for policymakers in Washington, D.C. and abroad; to act as a "switchboard" of resources and information concerning the Central Asia-Caucasus region; and to provide access for its sponsors in business to relevant expertise on the region.
