What are the religious roots of this phenomenon? What are its motivations? Join The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) for a briefing and discussion led by its president, Yigal Carmon, on this phenomenon. Issues addressed will include: The difference between suicide and martyrdom; the early Islamic roots of Jihad and martyrdom; the rewards of the martyrs; education to Jihad and martyrdom in Arab education systems; female and child suicide bombers; the Arab media on suicide bombings; and the possibility of attacks in the U.S. Carmon will conclude by offering ideas on how this phenomenon can be countered. A short video presentation depicting how Arab television portrays suicide bombers will also be shown.
