
Top Energy Department Official to Introduce Key Concepts of 'Hydrogen Economy' to Pittsburgh Students 12/4/2003
From: Tom Welch of the U.S. Department of Energy, 202-586-5806 News Advisory: -- Perry High School students to build model hydrogen fuel cell cars On Monday, Dec. 8, William Magwood, director, Office of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology, U.S. Department of Energy will visit Pittsburgh's Perry Traditional High School to introduce science students to the promise of hydrogen fuel cell technology. Students will learn about hydrogen and fuels cells through a series of experiments that will teach them how to build model fuel cell cars. The Department of Energy is encouraging the study of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies in schools to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers needed to bring the vision of a hydrogen economy to reality. President Bush has proposed $1.7 billion over five years in research funding for FreedomCAR and the Hydrogen fuel initiative, to enable America to lead the world in developing clean, hydrogen-powered automobiles that would free the U.S. from dependence on foreign petroleum.
