President Fails to Recognize Energy Efficiency as Path to Economic, National Security, Says Alliance to Save Energy 1/21/2004
From: Ronnie Kweller of the Alliance to Save Energy, 202-530-2203 WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 -- The following is a statement by Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan on the State of the Union address: "The President failed to put America's energy security front and center in his State of the Union address, even as American consumers and businesses face high energy prices, tight supplies, and a frigid winter. "Instead, energy policy was buried in a long laundry list of issues ranging from abstinence to steroid use among athletes. "Energy efficiency is the quickest, cleanest, cheapest path to economic, environmental, and national security, and President Bush and Congress should, therefore, make energy efficiency the foundation of our nation's energy policy. The federal government must act now to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and fully fund federal energy efficiency programs, research, and development." ------ The Alliance to Save Energy is a coalition of prominent business, government, environmental, and consumer leaders who promote the efficient and clean use of energy worldwide to benefit consumers, the environment, economy, and national security. | |
