
Nuclear Policy Research Institute: Unprecedented Report Critical to Depleted Uranium Debate 7/7/2003

The report, "Depleted Uranium: Scientific Basis for Assessing Risk" reviews the broad scope of available biological research documentation by both government and independent researchers on the specific health effects of depleted uranium. The press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2003, 10 a.m. at the National Press Club, Zenger Room. WHO: Dr. Thomas Fasy, will report on his recent trip to Iraq to follow up on studies by Iraqi doctors and address the biological connection between the dissolution of inhaled uranium oxides in the body and, cancer and birth defects. Dr. Helen Caldicott, a pediatrician, President of NPRI, and Nobel Peace Prize nominee for her work on nuclear issues, will address the broad scope of available research and propose recommendations. Steve Robinson, Executive Director of the Gulf War Veterans Resource Center, will address the link between the scientific studies and their real life application for US soldiers. Charles Sheehan-Miles, Executive Director of NPRI will moderate the proceedings.
