News Advisory:

Senate Majority Leader William H. Frist, M.D., will address more than 1,500 health services researchers, policy analysts, and practitioners in Nashville on Sunday, June 29, at AcademyHealth's 20th Annual Research Meeting. As both a physician and a champion of research, Frist is uniquely positioned to speak to participants, all of whom work to improve the health care delivery system, on the current state of the nation's health.

James Morone, Ph.D., of Brown University, will explore the powerful role the nation's puritan moral tradition plays in shaping-and stifling-American health policy, on Friday, June 27. His keynote address, "The Sick and the Sinful: Reflections on Social Justice and Health Care Research," stems from his newly-released book.

Nearly 500 researchers from across the country and abroad will speak at this meeting, which features 120 sessions in 16 major areas of health services research and policy, including Medicare and long-term care, workforce, public health, cost containment, and chronic care.

The research meeting also features policy roundtables-interactive sessions that promote the application of research to policy, management, and clinical practice-focused on cutting-edge topics such as consumer-driven health care, the nursing shortage, patient safety, Medicaid and SCHIP, international health care issues, and bioterrorism.
