Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham will join U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) Director Dr. Bill Madia and other dignitaries at a groundbreaking ceremony for the ORNL's new Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences, the first of five new nanoscale research facilities funded by the Department of Energy.

The groundbreaking will be held on Friday, July 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the ORNL's Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) project on Chestnut Ridge in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Media wishing to attend the event should register with ORNL's Office of Public Affairs or the Department of Energy Oak Ridge Operations Office's Public Affairs Office.

Secretary Abrah<6mW- 1/86 hold a media availability immediately following the groundbreaking ceremony.

In addition to the groundbreaking, Abraham and others will tour the SNS.
