PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill., Oct. 2 -- The head of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer, Karen Malec, chastised cancer organizations for participating in a 46-year government cover-up of the abortion-breast cancer (ABC) research. Five medical organizations say that abortion is a cause of breast cancer.

Malec declared, "Cancer organizations marshal hundreds of thousands of women to raise significant sums of money for them every year at cancer walks, but these same organizations concealed the existence of extensive ABC research conducted over a 46-year period." Although cancer groups universally recognize that childbearing is protective against the disease and that childlessness and late first term pregnancy increases risk, they illogically deny that abortion is responsible for an increase in the incidence of breast cancer.

"Cancer groups tell women a half-truth by suggesting that a late first term pregnancy after age 30 raises risk," argued Malec. "Scientists say that a late first term pregnancy occurs after age 24. Cancer groups don't tell women that each one-year postponement of a first full term pregnancy increases a woman's risk considerably. That's why our group encourages abstinence before marriage and discourages postponement of a first full term pregnancy after marriage.

"Not one of the cancer groups had the political courage or the integrity to protect women's health by blowing the whistle on the misconduct of their benefactor, the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI), because they covet the government's funding."

The NCI's director told the New York Times on March 11, 2003 that scientists attending its February workshop reviewed and debated the merits of the research. News editors uncritically accepted his falsehood. A whistleblower, Professor Joel Brind, an international expert on the research, attended the workshop and said a review and debate never took place.

"Induced abortion is good for the cancer fundraising business," said Malec. "The cancer establishment has a serious conflict of interest. It receives donations from pharmaceutical companies which make cancer drugs."

The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer is an international women's organization founded to protect the health and save the lives of women by educating and providing information on abortion as a risk factor for breast cancer.
