Shorter Name, Same Mission: AcademyHealth Moves Evidence-Based Research into Real World Health Care 9/16/2002
From: Hollis Hope or Kari Root, 202-292-6700 both of AcademyHealth WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 -- To better reflect its mission, the Academy for Health Services Research and Health Policy has shortened its name to AcademyHealth and adopted the tagline, Advancing Research, Policy and Practice. AcademyHealth, the result of the June 2000 merger between the Association for Health Services Research and the Alpha Center, is the professional home for health services researchers, policy analysts, and practitioners, and a leading, non-partisan resource for the best in health research and policy. AcademyHealth fosters networking, professional growth and development opportunities among researchers, public policymakers, business leaders, policy analysts, economists, sociologists, political scientists, consultants, clinicians, and students. "Health services research brings clarity to the complex decisions that employers, providers, insurers, and consumers must make every day," said W. David Helms, Ph.D., AcademyHealth President and CEO. "A crisper, clearer name and tagline for our organization is one small step toward that goal and represents another milestone in our organization's evolution that began with the merger." With more than 3,600 members and 120 affiliated organizations throughout the United States and abroad, AcademyHealth is committed to moving knowledge into action by stimulating the development, understanding, and use of the best available evidence-based research by public and private decision-makers. AcademyHealth is also home to the Coalition for Health Services Research, which serves as its advocacy arm and provides a unified voice for enhanced funding for research and data.
