News Advisory:

-- Nation's Largest Non-Partisan Voter Education Campaign Registered More than 185,000 New Hispanic Voters in 15 Months; Poll to Reveal Attitudes on Civic Involvement and Voting

The Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration, which serves as the mainland offices of the Governor of Puerto Rico, has successfully grown its voter education, registration and mobilization campaign targeted toward Puerto Ricans and Hispanics living in the 50 states to become the largest Hispanic-targeted effort during this election cycle. Exit polls conducted during the 2002 midterm elections showed the campaign generated a 70 percent increase in first-time voter turnout during the 2000 presidential election year and a 34 percent increase in overall Hispanic turnout.

This year's round of exit polls were conducted in five states by Miami-based Synovate Diversity, one of the world's top 10 market research companies, and will yield a national Hispanic sample within a 3 percent margin of error. Data reported will include perceptions of civic involvement and voting, turnout among first-time and repeat voters, as well as issues of importance to the Puerto Rican and Hispanic electorate.

"Que Nada Nos Detenga!," PRFAA's nonpartisan campaign to empower Puerto Rican and Hispanic voters by encouraging civic involvement in their own communities nationwide, was launched July 15, 2002 and will register more than 300,000 Puerto Rican and Hispanic voters nationwide by November 2004.
