News Advisory:

To celebrate the advances in detecting and treating heart disease and stroke, leaders in Congress, the cardiac community and the medical technology industry will gather at a reception Tuesday, April 30 from 5-8 p.m. This public reception -- to be held as the finale to the American Heart Association's lobby day -- will include exhibits of the latest technologies to detect and treat heart disease.

Heart Disease is America's No. 1 killer, and stroke is No. 3. However, breakthroughs in medical technology are working to change that. For example, breakthroughs such as coronary stents, implantable defibrillators and minimally invasive bypass surgery have helped reduce the death rate from heart disease by 40 percent since 1980.
