Black Conservatives Attending World Trade Organization Meeting in Cancun Available for Comment

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 -- Two members of the African-American leadership network Project 21 are attending the World Trade Organization ministerial meeting in Cancun, Mexico (Sept. 10-14) and are available to the media for comments on the proceedings.

Project 21 National Advisory Council member Deroy Murdock is a syndicated columnist for the Scripps Howard News Service as well as a senior fellow with the Atlas Economic Research Foundation. Niger Innis is a member of the Project 21 National Advisory Council and national spokesman for the Congress of Racial Equality.

The WTO's Cancun ministerial meeting focuses on agricultural policy. Conservatives hope that the United States and other developed nations will push for a decrease in farm subsidies and tariffs to increase the ability for smaller, less developed countries to trade with Western nations. Going into the meeting, the European Union stands accused of blocking reform efforts and continuing to allow agricultural subsidies to benefit elite European farmers at the expense of their Third World competitors.
