News Advisory:

WHAT: Chicago Wind Turbine Blade Event, display of 115-foot state-of-the-art fiberglass wind turbine blade, announcement of the availability of wind power in Illinois, and recognition of the first Chicago-area institutions that are purchasing wind-generated electricity from the ComEd-Community Energy wind farm at Crescent Ridge in Bureau County, Illinois.

WHERE: Northern end of Grant Park, on the south side of Monroe between Lake Shore and Columbus (across the street from the "Green at Grant Park").

WHEN: Monday, November 3, 2003 at 10:30 a.m.

WHO: Sponsored by Community Energy, Inc. and Commonwealth Edison, in conjunction with the 8th National Green Power Marketing Conference, organized by the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Center for Resource Solutions and the Electric Power Research Institute.

Featured speakers include:

-- Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn

-- City of Chicago, Department of Environment Commissioner Marcia Jimenez

-- NEG Micon President Andy Cukurs

-- Representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and leading wind energy purchasers including the American Lung Association, the City of St. Charles, several faith-based institutions, business customers, among others.

WHY: Electric customers buying wind energy are directly driving change in the local power mix and helping to create more clean, renewable energy sources. The more customers that purchase wind energy, the more wind farms that can be built.

VISUAL/PHOTO OPPORTUNITY:

Today's modern windmills are more than 230 feet tall, and one turbine blade is more than 115 feet long, the length of two semi trucks. One of these giant blades will be on display at the event.
