
DANGEROUS HURRICANE FABIAN MOVING SLOWLY TOWARD THE NORTHWEST (See the NOAA National Hurricane Center for the latest information on this storm. Sept. 3, 2003 � The NOAA National Hurricane Center in Miami, Fla., reports that at 11 a.m. EDT the center of Hurricane Fabian was located near latitude 22.4 north, longitude 62.7 west or about 700 miles south of Bermuda. Fabian is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph, and this motion is expected to continue during the next 24 hours with a gradual turn to the north. Please credit “NOAA.”) Maximum sustained winds are near 135 mph with higher gusts. No significant change in strength is forecast during the next 24 hours. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 160 miles. Estimated minimum central pressure is 945 mb, 27.91 inches. Large swells and dangerous surf conditions will be affecting the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico over the next day or so. The Bermuda weather service will likely issue a hurricane watch early Thursday morning. All interests in Bermuda should closely monitor the progress of Fabian.
