WHAT: The children and other young family members of the University of California, Berkeley's 12,700 faculty and staff members have been invited to the campus by Chancellor Robert M. Berdahl for "Take Your Child to Work Day" on Thursday, April 27. "This event can help nourish our children, their aspirations and dreams, as they experience some of what a university has to offer, and it affirms our sense of an extended Cal community," the chancellor said. The day is unstructured, with events held at departments throughout campus. The main campus-wide activity is an ice cream social. WHEN: Events will span the work day. The ice cream social is at 12:45 p.m. WHERE: The ice cream social will be held at Memorial Glade, a grassy field facing Doe Library. VISUALS:
Individual departments will hold events from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. including:
The "Dinosaurs and their Young" Festival, with exhibits and activities for children, at the Lawrence Hall of Science.
Tours for children of the Information Systems & Technology computer labs in University Hall, 10 a.m.
Mini-campus walking tours that spotlight the Eucalyptus Grove, Recreational Sports Facility, Sproul Plaza, Telegraph Avenue, and Doe Library. Tours begin at 11 a.m. at University Hall.
Story time for younger children, trips to the top of the Campanile, and Web page production at University Library.
Staff presentations at various units, and tours and demonstrations throughout campus, including at the Housing & Dining kitchen facilities.
Campus tours for staff and their children from Visitor Services at 101 University Hall, 2 p.m.
