Memorial service Dec. 1 for UC Berkeley Professor Marian Koshland, a noted immunologist and educator who died in October by Robert Sanders

BERKELEY-- A memorial service has been scheduled on Monday, Dec. 1, for noted UC Berkeley immunologist and educator Marian Elliott Koshland, who died Oct. 28 at the age of 76.
The service will be at 5 p.m. in the university's Berkeley Art Museum, 2625 Durant Ave., in Berkeley.
Koshland, a professor of molecular and cell biology, was an international leader in immunological research, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and past president of the American Association of Immunologists, as well as a past member of the National Science Board of the National Science Foundation.
A native of New Haven, Conn., she was a graduate of Vassar College and the University of Chicago, a scientist in the Manhattan Project, for many years a bacteriologist at Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York, and a researcher at UC Berkeley for 32 years.
Koshland is survived by her husband of 52 years, Daniel E. Koshland Jr. of Lafayette, Calif., a professor emeritus of molecular and cell biology at UC Berkeley; five children -- Ellen McCaughey of Melbourne, Australia; Phyllis Koshland of Sydney, Australia; James Koshland of Palo Alto, Calif.; Gail Koshland of Tuscon, Ariz.; and Douglas Koshland of Baltimore, Md. -- and nine grandchildren.
