UCSB Science Lite Talk Is on Monday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m. CANCER BREAKTHROUGHS TOPIC OF TALK SERIES October 22, 1998
A three-part series on cancer, from basic prevention techniques to new treatments, will launch the UCSB General Affiliates' 1998-99 Science Lite Program. Dr. Fred Kass, director of research for the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara, will provide an overview of contemporary cancer diagnosis and treatment methods at the University Club on Monday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. The University Club is located at 1332 Santa Barbara Street.
On Monday, Nov. 16, Les Wilson, UCSB professor of biochemistry, will discuss basic research and cancer drug development. On Monday, Dec. 7, UCSB research biologist Mary-Ann Jordan's topic will be basic science and its potential for treating or curing cancer.
Science Lite is a program for non-scientists interested in gaining a fundamental understanding of science and technology, as well as for those who have not had the opportunity to keep up with the myriad of advances in science. Among the areas of cutting edge research at UCSB the series explores are: biotechnology, computers and software, communications, materials, and ecology.
