NSF Announces Acting Director for Legislative & Public AffairsThe National Science Foundation has named Michael Sieverts as Acting Director for Legislative and Public Affairs effective February 14. Shortly, NSF will begin a search to fill the position permanently. Mr. Sieverts joined the Foundation in 1991. For two years, he has served as Section Head for Issues Development in NSF's Office of Legislative and Public Affairs (OLPA). Before coming to NSF, he worked for five years (1986-1991) as a budget analyst at the U.S. Congressional Budget Office with responsibility for science and space programs. Sieverts holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Julia A. Moore, previous Director for Legislative and Public Affairs, is leaving to join the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars at The Smithsonian Institution as a public policy scholar.
