HCFA'S EXCESS COMPUTERS HEADED FOR MISSISSIPPI SCHOOLS

Bruce C. Vladeck, administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration, announced today that HCFA is donating 150 surplus 386 model computers, that have been replaced by newer machines, to schools in the rural Mississippi counties of Tallahatchie, North Panola and Quitman.

"The computers can offer valuable help to rural schools," Vladeck said. "We are very pleased to see HCFA's surplus computers go to students who will make good use of them," he added.

The Federal Property Act allows for donation of equipment no longer needed by the government.

"This is sound equipment that I would hate to see wasted," Vladeck said. "It is excess to our needs because we have upgraded HCFA's computer system, but the equipment will be a valuable asset in helping these students prepare for good careers."

Tallahatchie, North Panola and Quitman counties were chosen to receive HCFA's excess computers as part of the ongoing Mississippi Delta Project, a public/private partnership involving communities, government, academia and private sector organizations.
