Plastic Surgery 2005 showcases span of plastic surgery
American Society of Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Chicago, Sept. 24-28
CHICAGO – From emerging minimally-invasive options for facial rejuvenation such as trumpet suture facelifts and mesotherapy to treat eye bags, to advances in combat injury management and new data on breast cancer recurrence after mastectomy, the hottest topics and technologies in plastic surgery will be presented at Plastic Surgery 2005, the annual scientific meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation and American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons. The meeting, held Sept. 24-28 at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center in Chicago, will be attended by nearly 5,000 doctors, medical personnel and exhibitors in the field of plastic surgery.
"With cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery reaching nearly 14.8 million procedures in 2004, the public's interest in plastic surgery shows no signs of slowing down," said ASPS President Scott Spear, MD. "The ASPS annual meeting gives plastic surgeons the ability to investigate and refine new techniques, review the safety and effectiveness of devices and procedures, and explore emerging trends in plastic surgery."
Sandra Day O'Connor, associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, will be the keynote speaker on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 4:30 p.m., during Opening Ceremonies at McCormick Place Lakeside Center. Justice O'Connor, who served 24 terms before announcing her retirement in July, is the 102nd appointee and the first female member of the U.S. Supreme Court. Opening Ceremonies will also feature the annual Patients of Courage: Triumph Over Adversity awards honoring inspirational reconstructive plastic surgery patients who have overcome devastating illness or injury.
