APIA announces the distinguished Dr. Barry Uretsky as opening speaker
President of SCAI and eminent physician, teacher and educator Barry F. Uretsky, M.D., FSCAI, has accepted the prestigious and coveted role as opening speaker at the first Asia-Pacific Interventional Advances Conference (APIA), 29 November – 2 December.
Internationally renowned for his work on interventional cardiology techniques and his research on cardioprotection methods, the U.S.-based expert represents precisely the goals of the APIA Conference: to foster scientific and technical interaction among regional workers in cardiovascular medicine and to create a strong dialogue between workers and experts around the world.
Dr. Uretsky is the President of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), a prominent professional medical society representing invasive and interventional cardiologists. "SCAI is dedicated to enhancing patient care through physician education and is pleased to co-sponsor the highly anticipated APIA Conference," says Dr. Uretsky. "APIA brings together experts in interventional cardiovascular disease from Australia and elsewhere to share their knowledge and experience with others to improve care around the world. It is a great honour for me to be invited to open this exciting meeting."
SCAI's membership has increased from 42 at its first Annual Scientific Session in 1978 to its current support base of 3,400 physicians in 67 nations. Having been involved with SCAI for 12 years, Dr. Uretsky is a firm advocate of quality in all areas of interventional cardiology – from minimising risk to patients and developing educational programs, to facilitating tighter networks through which members of the profession can communicate.
The author of 2 books, more than 130 journal articles, and 14 chapters in edited volumes, Dr. Uretsky looks forward to this unique opportunity of engaging with up to 600 fellow cardiologists.
The APIA Conference 2005 takes place over four days, including the option to attend the Gene or Stem Cell Symposium (at an additional cost).
