German Scholars Organization announces conference & career fair for US midwest region

Chicago meeting for German scientists and researchers of all academic fields in US and Canada

The German Scholars Organization (GSO) announces a career development workshop, regional conference and career fair for German scientists and academics of the Midwestern region of the U.S. and Canada at the Chicago Allerton Crowne Plaza Hotel on the 4th and 5th of June. The workshop, symposium and career fair will be preceded by a reception on the evening of the 3rd given by the German Consul General.

The workshop, "Fit for Germany," is offered in cooperation with the German Association of Universities (Deutscher Hochschulverband) and the international consulting firm McKinsey & Company and is scheduled for Saturday, June 4th. Application and hiring processes specific to research-oriented careers in Germany, as well as general strategies for reintegration into a research career in Germany will be addressed in detail. Participation is limited and available on a first-come first-serve basis.

The symposium and career fair, entitled "Prospects for Scientists in Germany," are scheduled for Sunday, June 5th. Among the presenters will be Dr. Hubert Detmer, acting Executive Director of the Deutscher Hochschulverband, and the honorable Katherina Reiche (CDU), Member of the German Bundestag and Chair of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Working Group on Education and Research.

The workshop and symposium entail an up-to-date assessment and briefing of the comparative career prospects for scientists in the American and German science and research 'enterprises' and markets, both in and outside of academia. Alongside the symposium on the 5th, participants will also have the opportunity to take part in our accompanying career fair.

Online registration is now open. More detailed descriptions and a program are available online. Please note the events will be held in the German language.
