National experts to discuss high-tech offshoring in free IEEE-USA webcastWHAT: Outsourcing Conversations is a free Webcast designed to discuss the offshore outsourcing (offshoring) of high-tech jobs overseas and its impact on the U.S. economy and technical workforce. The event, sponsored by IEEE-USA, is open to the media and the public.
WHO: Ron Hira, chair of the IEEE-USA Career & Workforce Policy Committee in Rochester, N.Y.; Michael Teitelbaum, a demographer with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in New York; and Philip Hatch, founder of Ventoro, a Hillsboro, Ore., company that facilitates offshoring for U.S. and European clients.
WHERE: http://www.itconversations.com/series/outsourcing-live.html
WHEN: Wednesday 1 December, 1-3 p.m. EST
WHY JOIN: The offshoring of high-wage, high-value jobs is changing the state of the U.S. technical workforce. While U.S. companies are attracted by lower foreign wage rates, less regulation and talented people abroad, managing a project thousands of miles away can be tricky and sometimes disastrous. As jobs go overseas, U.S. high-tech unemployment increases and wages decline. Join our national panel of experts as they discuss the pros and cons of offshoring. Does the U.S. economy benefit from this trend? Are there implications for our national security?
A companion offshoring blog moderated by Hira, Teitelbaum and other experts is available at http://www.corante.com/outsourcing/.
