'Visionary Anatomies' symposium National Library of Medicine examines art, anatomy, culture In conjunction with the "Dream Anatomy" exhibition, the National Library of Medicine is hosting "Visionary Anatomies," a half-day symposium. Anatomical showmanship goes back to anatomy's origins as a scientific discipline. Today, a revival of anatomical spectacle in fine art, science exhibitions, popular films and television shows has sparked new debates about the meaning, uses, ethics and history of anatomical display and representation. "Visionary Anatomies" will bring together anatomists, cultural historians, physicians, museum professionals, and historians of medicine and science to discuss the art and science of anatomy from the 1500s to the present.TIME:
