BIO to host educational seminar on industrial biotechnology

Seminar to be held at the New York Academy of Sciences on Thursday, January 23, 2003

This half-day (12:00pm - 5:00pm) educational event will focus solely on industrial biotechnology and emphasize the progress this sector has made in the industrial enzyme, bioenergy and bio-based materials markets, which are rapidly transforming multiple products and industries. The objectives for this seminar will be to create a forum for the "industrial side" of biotechnology, to build greater awareness of the growing industrial biotech market and to highlight innovations in the area among key audiences.

The event will begin with opening remarks by Carl B. Feldbaum followed by a luncheon keynote address by Rolff Bachmann, principle of McKinsey & Co., regarding the market opportunities for industrial biotechnology. Following the luncheon address will be four moderator-led panel sessions: Driving a $100 Billion Market, Perspectives on the Industry; Industrial Biotechnology Supporting the Needs of an Advancing Society; Biotechnology: It's Not Just Health Care; and Technology Drivers of the Industry.

Representatives from numerous companies have confirmed attendance at the event including those from: Cargill-Dow LLP, Codexis, Cooley Godward, the Department of Energy, Dow Corning, DSM Group, DuPont, Genencor International, Metabolix, NovoZymes, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Symyx Corporation.
