May 2003 From American Chemical Society World's largest scientific society to hold ACS ProSpectives conference on combinatorial chemistry The American Chemical Society, the world's largest scientific society, will hold the next ACS ProSpectives conference at Lansdowne Conference Center, Leesburg, Va., September 21-24, 2003.The topic of the conference is "Combinatorial Chemistry: New Methods, New Discoveries." This conference is designed to benefit research scientists in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries who work in the area of combinatorial or parallel synthesis and who use solution or solid-phase techniques. In addition, scientists working in a number of fields may find the conference session topics significantly relevant to their work. Those areas are medicinal chemistry, lead optimization, process chemistry, natural product chemistry and genomics and proteomics. Anthony Czarnik, editor, Journal of Combinatorial Chemistry, Michael Organ, York University, Canada, and A. Ganesan, University of Southampton, UK, are chairs for the conference. ACS ProSpectives is a series of small conferences for senior-level industry scientists. Each conference examines a field's important topics through presentations by its foremost researchers. Space is limited for these meetings. Attendance at the conferences is limited to 200 or fewer to facilitate easy interaction among the speakers and those attending. From 20-25 leading experts in each field participate in a given conference. The conferences are in addition to the Society's two national meetings and its eight to ten regional meetings held every year. The remaining conference in the series for 2003: Rendering Biological Knowledge from Proteomics and Genomics Ruth Van Bogelen, Pfizer; Eric Neumann, Beyond Genomics Lansdowne Conference Center Leesburg, Va.
