Common pain medications both prescription only formulations as well as over-the-counter products grouped together as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can cause severe GI bleeding and ulcers with heavy use. Medications that fall within this category include aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen sodium.
