American Pain Society 22nd Annual Scientific Meeting 3/20-23/03 in Chicago Racial disparities in pain management, opioid therapy issues and fibromyalgia among discussion topics You are invited to cover the proceedings of the 22nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Pain Society, March 20-23, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Some of the key topics are:Racial and Ethnically Based Disparities in Pain Management Former HHS Secretary Louis Sullivan, MD, and incoming APS President Richard Payne, MD, will participate in a special symposium on this topic on March 20. They and other speakers will discuss ways in which government and industry can collaborate with APS to address and correct regional and national disparities in pain assessment and management. Opioid Therapy at the Crossroads The role of opioid therapy in chronic pain management continues to evolve amid great controversy. Several sessions will be dedicated to issues related to balancing the risks and potential for abuse of opioid analgesics with their patient benefits.
