Research grants available for faculty at minority serving institutions

Tropical biology research experience

The Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS), a consortium of more than 60 universities and research institutions throughout the United States, Latin America, Canada, Australia and South Africa, requests applicants for an eight-week summer research experience in tropical biology for 2004. Specifically, this project targets faculty members at minority-serving U.S. institutions who have limited opportunities to conduct research in a tropical field setting, especially those faculty who work primarily in teaching colleges and universities. Under the supervision of a research facilitator, six faculty participants will conduct individualized research projects at one of OTS' three research stations in Costa Rica.

Each participant will receive a stipend of $1,000 per week ($8,000 for the eight-week experience) , roundtrip airfare, room and board and a $500 allowance for equipment and supplies. For more information or an application, please contact Gwen Wright. Application deadline is March 1, 2004.
