Los Alamos hosts press event at Gamma-Ray Burst meeting

LOS ALAMOS, N.M., Sept. 10, 2003 -- News media are invited to attend a press event Thursday, Sept. 11 at the Los Alamos-sponsored Gamma-Ray Burst 2003 conference at the Santa Fe Hilton hotel, 100 Sandoval St. Participation may be in person or by teleconference. The scientist panel and conference call will begin at 3:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight time in the Hilton Ortiz II conference room. The local telephone number for the teleconference is (505) 665-5452. Among the panelists will be George Ricker of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology discussing fundamental new data from the High Energy Transient Experiment (HETE-2) satellite; Shri Kulkarni and Alicia Soderberg of the California Institute of Technology commenting on follow-up observations of the X-ray flash "020903" event; Joshua Bloom of Harvard University talking on potential host galaxies of X-ray flashes and Don Lamb, University of Chicago, discussing the "uniform jet picture" of X-ray flashes and gamma-ray bursts.
