APsaA to convene Winter 2004 Meeting

National Biannual Meeting

New York, NY- The Winter 2004 Meeting of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) will be held at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel, New York City from Wednesday, January 21 through Sunday, January 25, 2004. Of particular note is the meeting's third annual poster session that will feature presentations with conceptual and/or empirical relevance to psychoanalytic theory, technique, aspects of practice, and effectiveness of psychoanalysis.

On Wednesday, January 21 from noon- 1:30 p.m., there will be a "Press Briefing with Psychoanalysts on Current Events and Issues of Contemporary Concern" which includes lunch. Press will also have the opportunity to meet Steven L. Levy, M.D., the incoming editor of the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association (JAPA), a premier peer-reviewed journal.

The Meeting's Scientific Program includes a number of symposia, panel presentations, and discussion groups of note. Among those is a conversation with Lord John Alderdice, Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly entitled "Terrorism: Looking Toward Conflict Resolution". In addition to his internationally renowned political career, Lord Alderdice is a psychiatrist and has trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Founded in 1911, APsaA is a professional organization of psychoanalysts throughout the United States. The Association is composed of Affiliate Societies and Training Institutes in many cities and has approximately 3,500 individual members. APsaA is a Regional Association of the International Psychoanalytical Association.
