UNC Chapel Hill researcher to reveal results of study of aspirin’s effects on colon polyps

Results of a major national study of the effects of aspirin on the recurrence of intestinal polyps, often considered a precursor to colorectal cancer, will be announced Wednesday (March 5) at a news conference at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. The briefing will begin at 2:45 p.m. in Room 4137 of the Bioinformatics Building. Note: This story is embargoed until 5 p.m. EST Wednesday in keeping with the embargo established by the New England Journal of Medicine, which will publish the findings Thursday.

Dr. Robert Sandler, professor of medicine, will describe the study for which he was overall principal investigator. Sandler also directs UNC's Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease. More than 100 U.S. medical centers and clinics participated.

Reporters can park in the Dogwood Parking Deck off Manning Drive across from UNC Hospitals. Videographers can unload equipment in front of the Bioinformatics Bldg., which immediately south of the Cardinal (employee) Parking Deck at the corner of Mason Farm Road and West Drive, before moving vehicles to the Dogwood Parking Deck. After exiting the elevators on the 4th Floor of the Bioinformatics Bldg., turn left and follow the signs to Room 4137, which is the UNC Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease's Conference Room.
