UCF to host Florida Academy of Sciences meeting Hundreds of researchers to present work ORLANDO -- The University of Central Florida will host the 67th Annual Meeting of the Florida Academy of Sciences and Florida Junior Academy of Sciences on March 21-22 at the UCF Student Union.Hundreds of researchers, including many from UCF whose focus ranges from oysters to polar bears, sea turtles, whales and possible treatments for cancer and Crohn's Disease, will each make 15-minute presentations about their work on March 21. John Brandenberg, of the UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science faculty and the Florida Space Institute, will make the keynote address at 1 p.m. His lecture on global warming is entitled "Dead Mars, Dying Earth: Planetary Crisis and Recovery." There will also be a special session on "Science and the Lake: Baseline Environmental Studies of Lake Okeechobee and its Watershed." The "Academy Medal" will be presented and there will be field trips to the CREOL Building and the Arboretum. The Florida Junior Academy of Sciences at UCF on March 22 will give middle and high school science students a chance to compete with each other and to network with students and adults with common interest. Student research papers will be evaluated and a "Medalist Award" will be given to one student who has made an outstanding contribution by promoting research and scientific knowledge.
