First joint meeting between ESA and SER

Combining ESA's 87th Annual Meeting and SER's 14th International Conference, the four-and-a half-day program will include a full agenda of 36 symposia, several scientific field trips and workshops, and a large exhibit hall. Exhibits will feature scientific texts and new publications, with a special focus on ecological restoration through modern and traditional methods.

The meeting's opening evening will feature Dr. David Suzuki, award-winning scientist and host of the television series, The Nature of Things, who will deliver the meeting's Public Plenary Address entitled, "From Genetics to Ecology -- One Scientist's Odyssey." Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and ecologist E.O. Wilson, will be giving a keynote address, "The Future of Life," the following night. Later in the week, ESA's Past President, Stephen Carpenter, will present his address, "Millennium Ecosystem Assessment: Role of Ecologists in Scenario Development."

NEWSROOM OPERATION

Members of the press (see policy below) are exempt from registration fees and are free to attend all meeting sessions. A staffed press room, including computers, a printer, telephones, and an area for interviews, will be available.

ESA POLICY ON PRESS CREDENTIALS

We are able to waive registration for reporters with: a recognized press card or current membership in the National Association of Science Writers, the Canadian Science Writers Association, the International Science Writers Association, or the Society of Environmental Journalists. Registration is also waived for Public Information Officers who can demonstrate membership in one of the above professional organizations.

We do not waive registration for editors of peer-reviewed journals, ad sales representatives, publishers, program officers or marketing professionals.

INSTITUTIONAL PRESS OFFICERS

Press officers may request copies of all abstracts related to their institution. ESA will distribute any relevant press releases in the Annual Meeting press room. Please contact Annie Drinkard for more information.

REGISTRATION

To register for the Annual Meeting, visit: http://www.esa.org/Tucson and follow the instructions for the Press/Exhibitor/VIP form. Please note that even if you have a zero balance on your registration, a credit card number must be entered for processing purposes. No charge will be made to your card unless you have selected a scientific field trip, workshop, or ticketed event. The deadline for registering for fieldtrips and workshops is July 3, 2002.

If you have a zero balance on your registration form, you will receive an error message upon submitting your registration. Disregard this message. We receive your registration even when the error message appears on the screen.
