Next generation genome map to be announced

Bethesda, MD -- The National Institutes of Health and an international consortium of researchers from Canada, China, United Kingdom, Japan, Nigeria, and the United States will announce a public-private effort to create the next-generation map of the human genome. The International HapMap Project will identify genetic variation that helps researchers more rapidly discover genes contributing to common illnesses.

The press conference will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, in the Washington Marriott, 1221 22nd St. NW. West End Ballroom B, Washington, D.C.
